Brentford and Derby County played out a goalless draw in a game of few chances at the Community Stadium.

Bryan Mbeumo and Josh Dasilva squandered the best of the Bees' efforts whilst Kamil Jozwiak struck the upright for Wayne Rooney's men.

The point comes on the back of a 2-2 draw with Blackburn at the weekend, which leaves the promotion hopefuls six points adrift of Norwich at the top.

A cagey opening quarter saw the visitors look comfortable in possession but failing to test David Raya in the Bees net.

Frank's men too were toothless in attack, with Mbeumo and Sergi Canos' supply line to the red-hot Ivan Toney halted by a robust Rams' backline.

The first meaningful effort came from the home side on 25 minutes.

Picking up a stray Greame Shinnie pass in the middle of the park, Vitaly Janelt drove towards goal before seeing his 20-yard effort fizz inches wide of the upright to the relief of David Marshall who didn't move.

Brentford's authority grew but it wasn't until the final moments of the half they looked to threaten.

Finding a yard of space down the right, Canos cleverly cut back to Emiliano Marcondes on the six-yard box, whose goal bound effort was deflected millimetres wide by Matthew Clarke.

Brentford started the second 45 with real conviction, pinning Rooney's men back deep in their half.

They should've made their dominance pay on the hour through courtesy of Frenchman Mbeumo.

The 21-year-old found himself alone in the box after Toney's knockdown which took Marshall out the game, but the winger inexplicably blazed well over from six-yards with an empty net to aim at.

Derby looked to capitalise on Brentford's woes and they nearly broke the deadlock with 20 minutes to go, but Jozwiak's effort shuddered back off the upright following a scramble at a corner.

Moments later it was Josh Dasilva's turn to hold his head in his hands. Running onto another Toney cutback, the midfielder struck his effort off the bar and over from ten-yards.

With the game approaching its conclusion, Frank emptied his attacking bench but in truth Derby handled the threat with relative ease.

Brentford travel to Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
