London Broncos will enjoy a welcome break from their Super League struggles when they take on Batley Bulldogs in the fifth round of the Carnegie Cup on Sunday.

Broncos are second bottom of the table after 10 defeats in their opening 12 games – the latest a 44-16 loss at Hull Kingston Rovers last Sunday.

Shane Rodney, Chad Randall and Keiran Dixon all scored tries but the injury-hit side, who were missing eight players including Michael Witt and Karl Temata who failed late fitness tests, could not stick with Rovers.

“If you look at the tries they scored, it was around our centres and wingers who are young, inexperienced and from London,” said coach Rob Powell.

“It’s our job to coach them up, but if you take eight players out of any Super League team they will struggle.

“We missed all the eight players who were missing but we're not making excuses.”
