South London hospitals are treating over one hundred patients for Covid-19 as cases rise but only 32 patients are on ventilators.

Hospitals in South London are not releasing information about how many coronavirus patients in their care have received one or two doses of a  vaccination.

Despite rising case numbers in the capital, hospital trusts across South London are now caring for far fewer Covid-19 patients.

The daily numbers of Covid patients, including how many are on ventilation, is collated and published by the government.

We asked trusts directly whether these patients had received one or two of their Covid-19 vaccinations.

All requests to do with Covid-19 are also overseen by NHS England, which may explain why four trusts came back with the same response.

Croydon Health Services, Epsom and St Helier Hospitals, Lewisham and Greenwich and  Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation trusts issued the following statement: “We are currently caring for a small number of patients with Covid-19 in our hospitals, far below the high numbers that we have previously seen.

“We know that the vaccine is effective and we would encourage everyone to get the jab to stay safe from Covid and help us get life back to normal.”

The Epsom and St Helier Hospitals NHS Trust said that the low number of Covid patients in hospitals meant that any further information is not being shared due to data protection as it ‘could lead to personal identification’.

As of Wednesday, July 7, South London hospitals were caring for the following number of patients.

Croydon Health Services Trust was caring for 16 patients including two on ventilation.

Epsom and St Helier Hospitals Trust was caring for nine patients including two on ventilation.
